I am struggling with this one, as it doesn't really do much except give it a little more power and alot less reliability in the tranny. Hemi (modern) mated to a 727, sure. I think the only thing there should see for a swap is a Cummins or something that will take you out of low teens for mileage

That's one of the better things you could do with $5,000...
I'd buy it and never look back. Hell, even knowing the trans will take a huge shit in the next few years, I'd just budget a little coin to take care of that when it happens and boom: another 100,000 miles of trouble-free-ish Wagoneering! That 318 doesn't make enough power to hurt itself, so as long as you keep it stock it should last you a good, long time. They're good engines, with maintenance and a general knowledge of wrenching.
